My quick thoughts about generative AI
ChatGPT, 2023 AI trends and how I plan to respond to these trends
Hi friends,
Happy Lunar New Year! 祝大家恭喜發財, 身體健康, 步步高升🧧
Disclaimer: This week’s newsletter article was NOT written using AI.
This week’s topic is inspired by a few conversations I had about AI and ChatGPT during lunar new year as well as the online buzz around this topic.
There has been a lot of talk on the news and social media about ChatGPT. For those who don’t know, here is a quick crash course:
ChatGPT is a chatbot that was created and launched by OpenAI in November 2022. GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer: Generative (creates content), Pre-trained (trained using data) and Transformer (a deep learning model that produces a text sequence given an input sequence). You can ask ChatGPT something and it will respond with almost human-like answers. As you can imagine, there are so many use cases for ChatGPT and generative AI in general. Writing, coding, art are only a few of the key areas where generative AI tools are starting to touch upon.
The disclaimer I wrote above (mainly written for dramatic effect) alludes to how AI is already and will continue to transform industries and jobs, starting with the creatives.
ChatGPT is only the start. Google is planning on demoing their own AI search engine soon. Countries such as China and US continue investing into generative AI and AI technologies as a whole. The nature of many jobs will be impacted (or even replaced) by the rise and adoption of these AI tools.
After reading more into generative AI, I feel excited but also a bit overwhelmed and nervous. Although there are many ways that these AI tools will revolutionise work, there are also many ways that these tools can be misused. As with any disruptive technology, we are entering uncharted territory so it’s best to keep an open mind and at the same time, cautious of any issues that will emerge.
Here are a few AI trends (non-exhaustive) we are likely to see in 2023:
More and more investments into AI companies and technologies
Existing companies integrating AI into their offerings
Massive upskilling and democratisation of AI tools
Individuals offering their services using AI eg: I help you transform and supercharge your business using AI
Emerging new companies that use AI as their main offering
AI ethics will be a even hotter topic and hopefully some policies/guidelines (at least many debates) created to safeguard the use of AI tools
What I plan to do in response to these trends:
Learn to use a few high-impact AI tools to improve my writing/content creation
Read more about AI to learn about the many use cases as well as the dangers/limitations
Share my learnings with you all (if you are interested)
What are your thoughts on ChatGPT and generative AI? Are you leveraging AI in your work already? How does the AI revolution make you feel? Would love to hear your thoughts :)

🌊Film: Avatar: The Way Of Water
I finally watched Avatar and it was as beautiful as I expected it would be. The visuals and acting were superb. Learning about how the movie was made via the behind the scenes clips and explanations made me appreciate the film even more.
🔎Video: Google - Year in Search 2022
I’m a bit late on this one but the Year in Search 2022 video made by Google was a really interesting watch. It matches my experience of 2022 - full of changes. Watching the 2020 and 2021 videos after the 2022 one put everything into perspective.

In case you missed it: In last week’s newsletter, I shared 24 lessons I learned in 24 years.
A question for you!
Are the results you are expecting aligned with the habits you are following each day?
Always open to learning more and hearing from you 😊
Thanks for reading!
Stay inspired,
