Hi friends,
I’m not a delicate or gentle person.
I like to do things quite scrappily. Mostly prioritising the practical.
I’d much rather hack through the bushes.
So when uncertainty hits, my first instinct is to take control of it.
Put in the effort to push and plow through it.
But recently, I’ve challenged myself to approach it differently.
Tending to it like a garden.
Nurturing it. Letting flowers bloom instead of forcing them
These days, if you ask me, how are you?
or what’s next? —
When I’m having a not so great moment, I’ll say — I’m a bit lost.
But most days, I’ll say — I feel pretty okay with where I am.
Because I think this is where I need to be.
I’m learning to delicately pruning the shoulds, weeding out the expectations of how my life must pan out.
Giving myself permission to ask:
What kind of life do I actually want?
What moves feel right, not just responsible?
What possibilities have I been too afraid to imagine?
Easier said than done.
But I’m practicing. Cutting out the noise — or at least trying to.
There’s so much of it.
Other people’s advice can be inspiring, but also distracting.
Distracting me from listening to the most important voice
My own.
Right now, I’ve accepted that no defined path is the path.
I could frame it dramatically.
A rebrand. A transformation. My ____ era!
I don’t need the romanticisation.
But if crafting a story helps give it a little bit more meaning, why not?
We’re suckers for stories.
So here’s mine:
I’m gently navigating this period surrounded by very loving and supportive people.
Following what sparks my curiosity, not just out of obligation.
Giving myself permission to explore widely, in a multitude of ways.
Actively learning new things to reconnect with myself.
Because having self-awareness is truly the only sustainable way forward.
In case you missed it: In my last post, I share 7 early career lessons I’ve learned over the past 5 years.
A question for you!
What is something you’ve forgotten but wish you could remember?
Always open to learning more and hearing from you 😊
Thanks for reading!
Stay inspired,
Viv
